This exhibit represents work of SLMM members from the Southwest and West regions - the theme coincides with the annual International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM, October 2020. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical show scheduled at the Albuquerque Sunport had to be cancelled, but we think everyone will enjoy this online presentation. The diversity of the work from our talented artists always makes for an exciting exhibit!

Sandra Duran Wilson

The senses become mixed and intertwined in the mind of the artist. Sounds appear in colors, numbers sing songs and frequencies dance in her head. Synesthesia is a crossing of the senses. The paintings and sculptures are a beautiful blending of sounds, science, and nature.
Sandra Duran Wilson comes from a family of artists and scientists. She grew up in a world where everything was possible, where she would look through the microscope in her father’s office and then draw what she saw. Sandra’s early years were spent on the border of Mexico where the people, animals, landscape, drama of the religious rituals, and stories of the curanderas shaped her reality. Years later she would return frequently to Mexico and South America to absorb the culture, traditions, and art. Her spirituality combined with her scientific studies has directed her work from realism to abstract mixed media.
Sandra Duran Wilson is an award-winning artist, author of six art technique books, several DVD's, numerous online classes and she has written for several art magazines including Acrylic Artist. Her work is exhibited internationally, and she teaches workshops around the globe. She lives in Santa Fe, NM and her art is in numerous Civic, Educational, Corporate and private collections world-wide. She has juried national exhibitions including the inaugural Abstract Show at Mark Arts, the Santa Fe Society of Artists and the Hawaii Water Media Exhibition. Her work is driven by curiosity, experimentation and the pure fun of finding out, what if?
Gale Craig

Arizona artist Gale Craig is known for her vibrant abstract paintings. What is truly unique about her style is that you can feel the essence of spiritual energy in everything she paints.
“In my paintings, there is a strong feeling of movement, symbolic of the dynamic creative force in all things. It is the beauty and vibrancy of this universal energy that I try to capture in my paintings."

An intuitive artist, Gale paints primarily in acrylics and encaustics, using both these mediums and their translucent properties to express in color and flowing forms that which cannot be expressed in words. She credits her growth as an artist to a keen sense of adventure and love of experimentation, summed up in the words “what if I try this?”
A graduate of Rutgers University and Middlebury College, Gale came to Arizona from the Washington DC area 19 years ago. Her professional career has been as a research analyst and writer for the Department of Defense, but painting has always been Gale’s passion. Her paintings have been exhibited at numerous regional and national shows and can be found in private collections nationally. Gale’s work is currently shown at the Sedona Arts Center Gallery, Sedona AZ.
